In Situ Liquid-Cell TEM Reveals a New Mechanism for the Etching of Gold Nanoplates

Prof. Hongyu Chen’s group in the Department of Chemistry at Westlake University recently published a research paper in the Journal of the American Chemical Society. The paper is titled “In Situ Observation of Active Surface Etching in Gold Nanoplates: Evidence for Intermediate Ligand Effects.”
The research reported the in situ observation of active surface etching in Au nanoplates using liquid-cell transmission electron microscopy. By analyzing the distinctive etching modes and in combination with previous ex situ etching studies, the authors revealed the crucial role of ligands in non-equivalent etching.
PhD student Qian Wang from Westlake University is the first author. Prof. Hongyu Chen and Assistant Researcher Guangyu He from the Department of Chemistry at Westlake University are the corresponding authors.
