The 2023 Westlake Postdoctoral Fellowship for Women is part of Westlake Education Foundation's initiative For Westlake Women in Science. Supported through the generosity of Vipshop (China) Co., Ltd., this fellowship fosters the personal and career development of exceptional female postdoctoral researchers at Westlake University. Through these outstanding individuals, we hope to inspire the general public, especially younger students, and to raise their aspirations in science-related careers.

Timeline

1. Deadline for submission: October 31, 2023

2. Final decision announced: December 2023

Number of Awards

Three awards will be made in 2023 for candidates in life sciences, engineering, and science.

Award Detail

Each awardee receives monthly supplemental funding of RMB 12,500, in addition to their original stipend, for up to 24 months during their postdoctoral stay at Westlake University. The timing for the award depends on the awardees’ employment status when the final decision is announced: current postdoctoral scholars will start receiving funds from the month of the announcement, while incoming postdoctoral scholars will start receiving funds once they are on board.

Eligibility

Applicants can only apply once and must meet the following criteria:

1. Incoming female postdoctoral scholars, who have identified a faculty sponsor at Westlake University, with a start date within six months of this announcement.

2. Current female postdoctoral scholars at Westlake University with a start date after November 1, 2022.

3. All awardees are expected to actively contribute to the initiative For Westlake Women in Science and take the lead in related activities.

Application Submission

The application package should include:

1. A full curriculum vitae including a full list of publications

2. Application form (please refer to Attachment 1)

3. Recommendation form from prospective/current supervisor/co-supervisor at Westlake University (please refer to Attachment 2)

4. Two letters of recommendation, ideally from references outside Westlake University

Review Process

1. All applications are subject to an initial screening for qualifications and eligibility.

2. The schools shall check submitted materials and conduct a preliminary review to develop a list of two candidates for referral.

3. The Review Committee shall hold a meeting, where candidates will deliver a presentation and answer questions on site, to select the finalists for the Westlake Postdoctoral Fellowship for Women.

4. The final awardees are announced after the interviews.

Review Criteria

Applicants are evaluated based on the following criteria:

1. Previous scientific achievements

2. Proposed postdoctoral research plan: intellectual merits and potential impact

3. Broader impacts of the applicants in contributing to the Westlake Education Foundation's initiative For Westlake Women in Science
