Applications are now open for the 2025 Westlake University International Mathematics Summer School. Undergraduate and graduate students worldwide who are passionate about mathematics are welcome to apply.

The 2025 Westlake University International Mathematics Summer School is designed to enhance students’ understanding of mathematical basics and recent advances in the discipline and to foster cultural exchanges among students from different countries around the globe. This short-term program will be held from July 6 through 16, 2025 at Westlake University, Hangzhou, China.

Throughout the summer school, renowned experts will deliver lectures on a wide range of topics in mathematics and engage with students in interactive discussions. All lectures will be conducted in English and are tailored to broaden students’ academic horizons, enhance their knowledge, and stimulate their interest in mathematical research.

By the end of the summer school, students will not only have systematically mastered fundamental theories but also improved their independent thinking and problem-solving abilities, all while making new connections and gaining enriching cultural experiences.

I. Eligibility Requirements

Applications are open to master's students and undergraduate students in their junior year or above, majoring in Mathematics or related fields.

July 6th - July 16th, 2025

III. Courses

Courses will be taught by renowned experts in the field. The complete course list will be updated as information becomes available.

IV. Tuition, Accommodations, and Travel

Application for the summer school has no registration nor tuition fees. Westlake University will provide free on-campus accommodation and a meal allowance for accepted students.

The application for reimbursement of round-trip travel expenses will be open to students after their registration on campus. The academic committee will review the reimbursement applications based on the submitted materials and academic performance to determine whether to approve the request and the reimbursement amount. Students approved for travel expense reimbursement will be required to submit supporting materials and bank account information as per Westlake University’s financial regulations within a specified timeframe. Travel expenses eligible for reimbursement are restricted to round-trip travel between the student's origin or place of residence and Hangzhou, exclusively for the purpose of participating in this program.

Other costs, including but not limited to local transportation, should be covered by the students themselves.

V. Application Materials

1. Bio page of a valid passport (non-Chinese passport holder) or Chinese ID card (Chinese passport holder).

2. Personal statement: Covering your academic and research background, as well as your research plans for the PhD program.

3. Proof of enrollment: An official enrollment certification, indicating your major in Mathematics or related fields, stamped by the university’s academic affairs department or relevant faculty/department.

4. Transcripts: Official transcripts of academic performance during university up to the current stage.

5. Other optional materials:

· Academic achievements: Representative academic research outcomes that demonstrate your academic level and capabilities.

· Award certificates: Proof of awards received for extracurricular science and technology activities during your time at school, or other types of award certificates.

· Evidence of English proficiency: CET6, IELTS, TOEFL, official proof of medium of instruction if the degree program is taught in English.

*Please note that Chinese students applying to both this program and the summer camp should prepare the application materials according to the requirements of the respective admission brochures for each program and submit applications through the corresponding systems.
